The ball is mounted on the spring, allowing it to be deflected.

The Z axis also works , but does not have a bump of the balls </ u> - damage / destruction of the sensor may occur if the drive goes unsteady!
Works only with metallic materials where there is electrical contact between the ball and the body of the probe.
The probe is approaching - ie always use without speed!
