COPASLIP is a product specially designed for protection against jamming or seizing of structural joints located in extreme temperature and pressure conditions. It also protects against rust, oxidation and corrosion. Protection against stiffening of the joints results in a reduction in the cost of service work in cases of occasional maintenance or disassembly. COPASLIP contains copper microparticles and finely dispersed lead in metallic form embedded in an infusible "bentonite" petrolatum base. In an alternative, lead-free product, lead particles are replaced by an artificial lubricant - polybutene.
Copper and lead are the basic elements that prevent binding and "sintering". Highly effective inhibitors against anti-oxidation and corrosion are added to them. Copper and lead form a matrix that fills the small irregularities of the surfaces on which COPASLIP is applied. This matrix never hardens, dissolves and is not disturbed by vibration, contraction or expansion.
In practice, copper hones surfaces, while lead fills the pores in the metal and creates a solid cladding. This phenomenon eliminates the bonding of materials at extreme surface pressures.
